This show is not just one of those nights where you walked aorund and drank beer making a riot talking with friends. This was a night to hush hush and dance- I can only imagine as I was not here, althought I did the eastern tour in its entirety this year...the long windy road is coming down the pike my magical wonderful friends...this show is a summation of the late Dead experience at its best in its earlier days...were it appeared, momentarily, that the scene wold last until NYE 1999/2000...but as we know only thy breathren such as Ratdog and Phl and Frnds are available and they do a hell of a job.
But this show so adequately solidifes the jam fest in time and space by providing a crispy aud quality for us here at the archive. The HSF is sick...do not miss-out. Great sound quality, Crank it up and enjoy the liquid milky slinkyness that is Jerry angrily belting out the lyrics to every song and his licks are, shall I say, instrumental, to the cause...he is on tonight!Dew is very special. Dew was only played 3 more times this year, culminating at 9/20/91 the HSfire night in boston- I was there!...then 9 times in 1992 and 8 in 1993 and 8 in 1994 and then just 4 times in 1995. Dew is on tonight as it is actually the 71st time since 9/11/83 (great show btw). This night also features a franklins that is on fire! The interesting fact is that Dew was played an alarmingly low 42 times between 1973-'83. So to have it be the 113th Dew since 1973 is actually pretty significant. It was played in 1987 about 22 times but was very rare in the late 70's. Only played 8 times from '76-77..and just 1 time in 1978 (4/15/78-2nd best to 11/8/79) and 1 time 18 months later in 1979.
Oh, and do not even think about missing out on the drums...they roack as well. This may very well be the greatest show I never was at...sorry to end in a preposition but it works here!
